Our Teaching Theory
There are many different styles of teaching and many different ways to make a classroom work. We like to keep our classes small. We can have more one-on-one time with each student and make sure each one is making the progress that they are capable of making, and not falling behind. We also know, in large classes, how easy it is to overlook someone, and we know how painful that can be for a student. Within the younger groups of students we plan on having “Mommy and Me” classes once a month, which any kind of family member or guardian may attend. This gives the parents a chance to see what their children are doing and how they are fairing in the classes. By giving them the chance to come to the class, and actually take part in it makes the parents feel that they are taking a more active role in their child’s learning experience. We like to stay positive but make sure that the student understands what areas they need to work on. We know from personal experience that not having a positive teacher inhibits the learning experience.
Ballet: Ballet is wonderful way to increase balance and posture from early ages. It uses smooth motion and requires a student to connect the motion of their bodies with the music they are dancing with. Ballet is the basis of all dance.
Jazz: Jazz is a class that helps a dancer experience the different things that they can do with their body. It requires them to move in ways they may not be accustomed to, and to open themselves to different things in themselves.
Tap: Tap is an
exercise in rhythm. Done with and without music it makes a student count with
the music and enhances their abilities to find rhythm in music.
Dance for the Theatre: An opportunity for the actors in the community to come
and learn basic dance steps that are used on the stage.
